Andrew "Chim" Beckwith
Photographer, Scuba Diver, Cyclist, Nerd, Techie, Gamer
I started dabbling in taking pictures in college with a small point and shoot camera. After obtaining a job in the audio visual field, my passion for photography grew and I moved up to a crop sensor DSLR in 2010.
I received my open water certification for scuba diving in 2011. Photography and scuba diving go hand in hand for some people, and I dove deep (pardon the pun) into underwater photography. I started with a crop sensor ILC as my underwater camera.
In 2012, I upgraded again to a full frame DSLR. A year later, I decided to advance in my scuba diving career as I became a PADI Divemaster. In 2014, I cross-leveled my land photography and underwater photography by going to a Canon 5D Mk III for all of my photography needs. I am also now a tech trimix diver, and a rebreather (Hollis Prism 2) diver.
I focus mostly on underwater, landscape, architecture, and macro photography, though I have done a little bit of sport photography and wildlife photography. I have the utmost respect for wedding and portrait photographers, but I could never do it. I enjoy my current job because it allows me to travel and gives me the flexibility to take personal adventures when I can. However, if I had to choose, my dream job would be an underwater photographer for National Geographic.
“From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free.”
